Countryside, a leading developer of new communities, is inviting Bishop’s Stortford residents to have their say on plans for a new mixed- use neighbourhood, known as Bishop’s Stortford South, located north of St. James’ Way bypass and west of Thorley Street / London Road.

The public consultation will launch on Tuesday 12th December. The emerging proposals for Bishop’s Stortford South will be displayed at two drop-in public exhibitions in December.
  • Tuesday 12th December: Small Hall, Charis Centre, Water Lane, Bishop’s Stortford CM23 2JZ - 4pm – 8pm
  • Thursday 14th December: The Cedar Room, Rhodes Centre, 1-3 South Road, Bishop’s Stortford CM23 3JG - 10am – 2pmMembers of Countryside’s team will be on hand at the exhibitions to answer any questions, and information will be made available online for those who might not be able to attend on the two dates. East Herts District Council has prepared a new District Plan which has identified a need for approximately 18,400 new homes in the district by 2033.
Bishop’s Stortford is considered to be a sustainable settlement and the site has been identified in the District Plan’s Policy ‘BISH5’ for release of green belt land to accommodate mixed-use development. The scheme will lie entirely within the existing town boundaries, north of the existing St James’ Way bypass. Countryside’s emerging proposals include provision for 750 new homes (to include affordable housing), a care home, a primary school, land for a secondary school, a local centre, community facilities, and employment land (around 4 to 5 hectares) to bring new local job opportunities to the town. The development is anticipated to be complete by 2027.

A landscape-led approach to the development of these plans ensures that open views are maintained and existing trees and hedges are retained wherever possible. A variety of open spaces will also support biodiversity of the site through ecological enhancement and variety of locally appropriate planting.

Andrew Carrington, Managing Director, says “We hope that we’ll get some valuable comments from the public consultation to help us develop the master plan in the best way possible.

A seven week consultation period launches on Tuesday 12th December and closes on Friday 2nd February 2018. During this time we encourage feedback from local residents and businesses on our proposals to inform the development of our plans.

Mr Carrington continues “We invite you to view our current plans and provide feedback, which we will then consider before we submit an outline planning application to East Herts District Council in 2018.”

“We are excited by the opportunity the development provides to create an attractive gateway to the market town from the south”.

There are several ways to take part in consultation. Two public exhibitions are being held; a website will be launched on Tuesday 12th December with full details of the project and an online feedback form (www.bishopsstortfordsouth.co.uk) and comments can also be sent via email to info@ bishopsstortfordsouth.co.uk or by post to FREEPOST COUNTRYSIDE PROPERTIES (no stamp or further address required). The closing date for comments is Friday 2nd February 2018.
