Off Site Road Works

Infrastructure works will start shortly to facilitate the construction of the relocated Bishop’s Stortford High School to the site.  The construction access for the school contractors is off St James Way.  Work will begin in August to create the construction entrance and haul road for the school.

To ensure the safe operation of the highway network during the school construction period, a 40mph speed limit is being introduced on St James Way between the Obrey Way roundabout and the London Road/Thorley Street roundabout.

Traffic Management will be in place on the road to support the 40mph speed limit and, for temporary periods, when the traffic management is first being introduced, and when changes take place, that section of road will be closed for short periods.

When closures take place the signed alternative route will be via A1184 (St James Way/Bishops Park Way), A1250 (Hadham Road/Link Road/The Causeway/Hockerill Street), A1060 London Road and B1383 (London Road/Thorley Street).

The traffic measures will be in place from the 1st August and will last for a period of around 18 months.

These measures have been approved by Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) who are also placing notices in the Herts Mercury and on site. Any queries regarding this aspect of the works should be made to the HCC Network Management team.

Commencement on site

Work will also be commencing on site in early August to bring forward infrastructure and services at the northern end of the site close to Whittington Way.  This will also include the removal of some trees along Whittington Way between Bishop’s Avenue and Villiers-sur-Marne Avenue, in order to create a 4m footpath/cycleway adjacent to the road.  The trees proposed for removal are permitted through the grant of the outline planning permission and have been examined by an arboriculturist as either unsuitable for retention as part of the development or are in poor health. The trees to be removed will be replaced along the frontage of development set back from the footpath, as part of a wider landscape strategy across the site.
