An update on upcoming work at the St James’ Park Development at Bishops Stortford South.

Public Rights of Way temporary closures

During the winter months, Countryside will be constructing the north-south spine road between Whittington Way and St. James Way. This road crosses two existing public rights of way within the site – the Hertfordshire Way to the north and Thorley Footpath 001 further south. To ensure the continued safety of the public during construction, we will be closing the public rights of way temporarily during the most intensive period of works for a period of approximately 12 weeks. Whilst we try to keep public rights of way open during construction works, it does not always prove possible and clearly public safety must take priority at this time.

Notices will be placed at the entrances to the site during the week of 26th October 2020 with the closure scheduled to commence on the 2nd November 2020. The extent of the temporary closure is shown in the plan overleaf.

For any queries regarding the public rights of way closures please contact the Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) Rights of Way team at

Please rest assured that the rights of way will be protected and open in the longer-term as required through the planning permission; they are of course a very important asset to existing residents and indeed will also be for new residents.

Off Site Road Works

Infrastructure works will start shortly – around mid-November – to facilitate the construction of a new roundabout at the junction of Whittington Way and Bishop’s Avenue, for a period of around four months. To ensure the continued operation of the highway during this period, Traffic Management will be in place on the road.

These measures have been agreed with HCC Network Management. Any queries regarding the roadworks should be made to

Please also refer to which will be updated from time to time and which will show on plan the key dates and areas of work which will be taking place over the next few months.
